A little bit about Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Camel Ski School…

Stand Up Paddle Boarding is fast becoming one of the most popular water sports. People of all ages and fitness levels are capable of paddle boarding - it’s easy to learn and great fun.  Getting out on the water, soaking up the sun and sea air does wonders for your physical and mental well-being and gives you the chance to explore the beautiful scenery of the Camel Estuary.

We have various sessions at Camel Ski to suit all levels of ability.  Our classic ‘Pay & Play’ is a safe and supervised one hour session - an ideal entry point for all would-be ‘suppers’. For those who are a little more serious in getting into the sport then we have our Paddle Board Lessons – these are taken by one of our qualified SUP Instructors.  The lessons cover the techniques of paddle boarding and essential safety tips. This is an ideal session if you have or are thinking of getting a paddleboard as it will give you the skills and knowledge to enjoy your new sport safely. Then, for the more adventurous we have our SUP Safaris.  An exciting 2-hour trip exploring the magical spots on the Estuary you can only access by water.

Our Equipment: A stand-up paddle board or SUP is a very buoyant board, typically between 10 and 12 foot long. You can comfortably kneel or stand on these boards and use a long paddle to manoeuvre it. Our SUPs are all inflatable, so they are easy to carry and lighter than a hard board. Our standard boards are 10.6 foot long.  We have 6 x single SUPs.

We also have two ‘MONSTER SUPs’ that are 15 foot long! These can take up to 6 people, which makes them great fun for families with children and groups of friends.

Pay and Play Sessions Our SUP and MONSTER SUP ‘Pay and Play’ sessions are our standard one hour session for our SUPs. These sessions are not ‘lessons’ as such, but before you go out on the water you will receive a land briefing on how to stand on and paddle the boards. You will then spend the rest of the hour on the Estuary to ‘play’ and practise your new skills! It’s great fun and there will be a qualified member of our team on a safety boat out on the water with you at all times should you need any additional guidance or help. We have a few different routes depending on the wind and tide conditions. Pay and Play sessions are recommended for beginner to intermediate paddlers.
