INSTRUCTOR COURSE
British Water Ski offers three tiers of Instructor qualification, the standard Instructor, Club Coach and Senior Coach licences, complemented by Instructor qualifications
in each division e.g. Wakeboard Instructor, Barefoot Instructor etc.

What do I need to qualify?
you must be a member of British Water Ski.
you must be 16 years of age at the time of undertaking your course.
you must possess the Ski Boat Driver Award as a minimum.
you must possess a current First Aid attendance certificate.
you must have completed a minimum of 10 hours instruction.
you must be in possession of the British Water Ski Instructors Manual.
you must have an appropriate level of skiing for the qualification you intend to gain.
you must meet the requirements of our Child Protection policy - CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) check (please see below)
What is an "appropriate level" of skiing?
Instructor standard - Silver Grade
deepwater start on one ski.
carry out on a mono ski six virages across the wake correctly.
return to dock and land in a controlled manner.
What do I need to do in the test and how long does it take?
Practical Test
demonstrate to the examiner an appropriate level of skiing.
demonstrate to the examiner your coaching skills in relation to the course content.
Written Test
complete a mixed multiple choice / short answer test paper (approx 45 minutes).
receive a minimum score of 70%.
Training course
2 day theory and practical.
1 day assessment
How do I maintain the qualification?
you must remain a British Water Ski member.
you must attend a first aid course every three years.
you must submit a renewal form every three years.
Criminal Record Bureau (CRB)
British Water Ski has now registered with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) as a Registered Body able to request CRB checks on our registered coaches / team officials. As a sports governing body and because of the current climate regarding child protection issues we felt that it is necessary for everyone concerned for our coaches / officials to be subject to this type of check.
As one of the coaches / team officials involved with the care of children we request that you now apply for a CRB clearance. The application process is straightforward, but can take up to 12 weeks. In order to proceed with your own CRB application you will need to:
1) Telephone the CRB to request an application form for an "Enhanced Disclosure" stating that you are an “Amateur”. The telephone number is 0870 9090822 and you will need to quote "British Water Ski" as the Registered Body and they may ask for our registration number which is 23712600009. Please note that all application forms must be requested from the CRB - the forms are barcoded / numbered and we are not allowed to stock copies.
2) Complete the application form and return to British Water Ski - please note the following points:
a) you must complete your application in black ink or it will be returned to you.
b) when you submit identity documents as specified in the application guidelines you must submit original documents. If you are worried about the post please send these documents by recorded delivery or by hand. Please note that the British Water Ski office will return these documents to you within 10 working days. We do not send your documents to the CRB.
c) send the application form to British Water Ski NOT the CRB. Please clearly address your envelope to: "British Water Ski Coaching" The Tower, Thorpe Rd, Chertsey. KT16 8PH,and clearly mark your envelope -"Private and Confidential" .We will complete the rest of the application process for you.
